camera love.

Sunday, October 16, 2011

After being curious about a certain camera that I saw on Diana Rikasari's blog, I searched for some reviews on it and came across this channel on youtube under DigitalRevCom.
Kai's reviews are so informative and incredibly entertaining at the same time. He really does keep your full attention for the entire video. Maybe it's the fact that he's Asian and has an English accent... I love that lulz.
Anyways, I found the review I was looking for on the Olympus PEN E-PL2.

Soooo pretty.

....and now I HAVE to get it -__-''
Fuck.

broccoli cheddar, diana +, tarot cards, and bbq.

Friday, February 25, 2011

Quite an eventful day yesterday.

Late-ish surprise (for Bryan) lunch at Panera.
Their broccoli cheddar soup is the best! Good thing I ordered while Bryan was still on the line. He gave me a full bowl. Muahaha!

Happy boy face :D ...with the name tag of course.

Bus ride downtown.
It's so easy for me to fall asleep on the GO buses - more than the trains actually.

My first expired instant photo that came out REALLY blue.

The long but not long walk along Queen.

To the Lomography store!!!! :D
I actually had no idea that there was a Lomography store downtown until about two weeks ago. I just decided to google it to see if there was one since I've seen a lot from the Mijonju Show in different locations... and BAM! One in Toronto that opened last November! Whaaaat? Apparently it's the only one in Canada so far.
It's so awesome inside.

Their prices for cameras are so much cheaper in comparison to Urban Outfitters! I was so happy to see they were selling the Diana + Instant Back and other accessories for the Diana+ that I want to get in the future. (I don't even have the regular sized Diana at the moment lolololol)

Another reason why I decided to go visit on that particular day is because they have Blue Hour Thursdays. And this week it was Psychic Night! So free Psychic readings yayyy. I've never had one done and it was free, so why not. I wasn't expecting too much to begin with since it was free. And I was right about it. The psychic did Tarot card readings and it was pretty general in comparison to other psychic reading stories I've heard from some of my friends that actually paid to see one.

Random picture one of the guys that worked there took during the event. Lizzeh was having her reading and I was trying to call the incredibly cute puppy! XD

It wasn't much of "This is what's going to happen to you" because it wasn't at all. It's more of an opportunity to think about the things going on in your life, what you need to do, and a reminder of what you are capable of. It's also like getting advice from someone that knows nothing about you, which I think is pretty cool. So, I totally bought my own deck of Tarot cards today lolololololol. Oh, and I totally want to get a deck of Clow Cards! XD

Anyways...
Korean bbq dinner! Yummmm...

Patrick and Lizzeh

Fun fun day.
It was all the worth carrying my Fuji Instax 210 with me the whole day.
And looks like my camera wish list increased. Whoops. x_X.

Now back to studying.

I got a new cage for twitter over the weekend. This whole time we've been keeping him in Tweety's lil carrying case, which is TINY and I've always felt bad for him even though I always let him out to invade Tweety's cage. Tweety and Twitter do fight sometimes so I don't really feel comfortable keeping them both in one cage when no one is at home. (Btw, I'm saying him because I think Twitter is a boy now) I looked at the prices at the pet store in Square One, but the smallest cage they had there was like $75. Rip off.

I decided to go back to the pet store I got Tweety from in 2003. It's called Pet Mart on Dundas. The people there seem to specialize in birds more so they have a lot of nice bird supplies and a ton of cages! I do recommend going there since they know what they're doing and also their prices are waaaay cheaper. Guess how much their small cages were? $20! So I picked a really cute small cage that I thought was a decent size for one budgie, but my sister and mom spotted this bigger one that was on sale for $25. It was originally $50 but it was half off because it was a used cage. So I decided to go with that one instead. According to one of the workers there, the small cages they had there are apparently too small for budgies and are only carrying cases for bird shows or something. I thought that was a little odd because I swear I've seen people cram three or four budgies in one small cage, but okay.

What I loved about the new cage was that it looked exactly like a mini version of Tweety's cage. So they match! =]

I had a lil photoshoot with my Fuji 200 yesterday because I was still excited about the cage. lololololol. (which is partially the reason why I finally got the energy to scan ALL my instant photos from December up until now and post them up) I got to play with some of the expired film I got as well, which was also very exciting.

My favourite expired photo so far.

I love my birds! =] I want to get another budgie friend for Twitter. I really really wanted to get this one that was spotted like a cow! ... or this other one that was a bright bright yellow XD K I'll stop now.

Until next time.

shutter happy.

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

Oh yes I did!

Not the Fujifilm 210!!!

Yes, I was really quick in getting this. I got it as a "Congrats for getting your choreography in Choreo" gift to myself. lololololololol... That could just be an excuse, but I'd like to think of it like that so I don't feel so bad for buying it. Har har~

It's pretty massive. It's a lot bigger than I expected it to be, now being able to hold it with my own hands D:
The size of the pictures it takes is a lot bigger than the Fuji instax 7 so it's worth it. Almost equivalent to Polaroid pictures but in wide format.
And guess who can go shutter happy with it???

I stole Bryan's hat. lolololol.

Yes, those are 14 packs of film bought from a really nice seller on kijiji who seems to be really into photography. So he knows his stuff. The packs are expired so they were extremely cheap but they were stored properly. They were only $6 a pack which is really good compared to around $25 for a twin pack in camera stores (which also isn't too bad considering I saw Blacks selling twin packs for like $40 x_X. That's too crazy). I only paid $60 for 14 packs. He threw in 4 packs for free. That's like 140 pictures! :D I won't need to buy film for a while
The seller also posted some pictures he took with the same batch just to show that they aren't completely useless I guess. The quality of the expired film looked really nice so I didn't mind. He said that if I had any packs that weren't working he'd replace them for me. So it's all gooood =]

The expiry dates are in the end of 2001 and beginning of 2002. I had no idea this type of camera from Fujifilm existed for that long! The packaging does look a lil bit older compared to the newer packs of wide film. There's a pic of the Instax 100 on the box... which I actually have never seen before.

first pictures taken with non expired film.

I can't wait to play with this camera more :D
I just need to stop being lazy and actually scan all my instant photos >_>

choreography and lomography

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Update since I've been dead for like two weeks. Actually.

The last two weeks were the most physically and mentally tiring that I've ever experienced! Which would be a weird to say since the first two weeks back at school aren't usually to be like that for most people at least. Choreo auditions were soon after school startedso it meant rehearsals x 2049582094029384! Out of the 100 pieces that enter, only 40 get in. Yeahhh. The stress just progressed throughout the weeks to a point where everyone was pissed at each other. I neglected all my academic readings because I would collapse on my bed as soon as I got home each night. I had like no social life and didn't even see Bryan for the whole week... which really didn't make the week go any better. But death week is over now! Thank god. It'll be somewhat calm until the casting list goes up. Heh. I feel like it will take a lot longer for the faculty to decide this year because there were SO many good entries from what I saw during people's rehearsals.

Here is one group piece I choreographed. It was originally for my Creative Performance class, but I decided to add music, make some changes, and audition it for Choreo.

Dorothy

It was one of the latest run throughs the day before the audition that I got on film. There's no music in beginning because it's supposed to start in silence, in case you're wondering why you can't hear anything. The ending was cut off too xP
I did post this facebook, but set to private for those associated with this piece. But because you bother to read my blog, you get to see it! :D yayyyyyy

The music was actually made by a good friend of mine from high school, Marvin. It's called Loves Interlude. I came across it when he showed me his music site where he has all his different song recordings. It really spoke to me at the time and I remembered it later on when I was thinking of potential songs for my choreography. Yeah, so I asked him if I could use it and he said yes =] Thanks Marvin! Check out his stuff here!

Photography wise.
I got a Diana Mini over the Christmas break! I got the Alice in Wonderland version though I was only planning on getting the regular one. I just couldn't resist because it was so cute! :D And also it came with a Diana Flash that I could use when I do get the regular sized Diana + some time in the future. I decided to start off with the mini first mostly because it uses 35mm film which is way easier to find and cheaper than 120mm film. I know you can buy 120 film at Urban Outfitters, but I'm not sure which places process the film. Wal Mart maybe? Dunno. I've only gone through one roll of film for the Diana Mini that I mostly experimented with. I haven't gotten it developed yet though. I do have a feeling that I may have accidentally overlapped images with the way the film winded at some points. Using this type of camera definitely brings me back to Photography class in high school minus the developing process.

I think the line on the back of the camera is clever. "Through this lens is wonderland"

I also finally got myself a Polaroid SX 70 aka. the camera that unfolds!!! I wanted one so badly after watching the Mijonju show on Youtube. Mijonju definitely got me back into photography. I love how this camera transforms! I was so tripped out the first time I saw him open it.

TRANSFORM! >:D

I got a good deal on Kijiji. The prices I've seen around on ebay and such were like $120 + for the camera and a case. Or even just the camera sometimes.
Buuuut I found someone selling it for $60 which included the case and another case with a whole bunch of accessories for the camera that most people do not include. It just has a scratch on the leather on the top, but other than that, it's in good condition. The guy selling it was this old man who had the camera for 20 years, but hardly used it. So, the camera is just as old as me! He said he was happy knowing that his camera was going into good hands.
Now the only thing I need now is SX 70 film =( Not cheap at all.

Next on my list
Fujifilm 210
Because it's awesome too... and film is available :D
Until next time.
