Improv Art Piece

Saturday, February 28, 2009

In my improv class before Reading Week, we did an activity where we all had a chair and placed ourselves in any area in the studio that was comfortable to us. We then had to close our eyes and improv around the chair. I don't know if this will sound weird or lame but we had to have some sort of "journey" starting on the chair, to the floor, and then back on the chair. Well, not literally a journey, but just some thing kept in mind so we're not just moving around the chair just because we were told to. Let's say we had to move with purpose.

With these kind of activities, the things I end up thinking about always happen to revolve around the same thing that I have experienced. I'm not exactly sure why. Maybe it's more comfortable for me to think of that even though it's not all happy memories that come out. During my improv, I was surprised with the different kinds of things I was able to do with the folding chair. I thought I would have gotten stuck in the middle at some point, but I just kept going and it lead on to other places. I hope whatever I'm explaining isn't too weird ahah. It's a very dancerly thing to talk about... I think.

Onto the idea of my improv. When I started on the chair, I felt like I was waiting for something that I knew was probably not going to come. The ideal thing would be to just leave the chair. However, I found that I still had a little bit of hope in me and couldn't move away from the chair. During the entire exercise, I was always in contact with the chair even when I went on the ground.

After the exercise, my teacher then told us that next week we had to bring a piece of art of any form other than dance that expressed our journey. This was obviously a great opportunity for me to do a painting because I miss visual arts! T_T So I did a painting =]

So here is a girl waiting in the rain for someone and she is tied to a lamp post. The red ribbon symbolizes her feelings which is what is tying her down. And if you look closely at the puddles at the bottom, the ribbon does not have its own reflection because it's not a physical thing.

For those who have seen my artwork in Grade 12, you may find that this painting is similar to one I did last year.

You can't really see because of the flash, but it says "YOU MAY SAY I'M A DREAMER. BUT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE." Yes, these are lyrics from John Lennon's Imagine =] Just a short summary of why I did this. In my art class in grade 12, we had to pick a theme and make 4 art pieces based on it. My theme was Imagination and this one was my last piece. Maybe I'll post the other ones later.

The style this was painted in was inspired by this artist I found on deviantart named Leonid Afremov. There are a billion paintings posted if you check his stuff out. I really like the use of colour in all his paintings. I am really attracted to colour if you haven't noticed ahah. He makes realistic every day scenes seem magical =] ahah. It's not hard to paint like this. You do not have to make sure that there are clean lines. I didn't even have to draw any outline for my Improv Art piece. I just went right into it. Because I only had to use mainly black and white and used such a small canvas, it only took me about 2 hours to finish it. Well, 2 hours seems short to me at least x]

I really opened up a little bit of my artistic side today. ahah
I hoped you enjoyed my art pieces =]

Until next time.

My Reading Week

Monday, February 23, 2009

My Reading week didn't feel completely like a break just because I still had dance and stuff. But I was able to catch up on sleep ahah. I thought that it would be a chance for me to see most of the friends that I STILL haven't seen since 2008, but I pretty much just saw the same friends that I see every single week, which are Lizzeh and Bryan.

Bryan had been meaning to come and visit me at school downtown for a while, but we never really got to it. So we used one of the days during my reading week as an opportunity to hang out downtown together and show him around my school =] Pretty much I brought him to this All you can eat Sushi place called Mariko (I think) that I had been to once with another friend. I know there's a lot in the area but it was the closest to my school and I wasn't sure how good it was at the other places. The food was really good and the service wasn't bad at all. They did forget one order which was my sushi pizza (which is LOVE by the way) so I just told the waiter. He came back and he actually apologized very sincerely and told me that they didn't see it which surprised me because I had never gotten an apology like that at other sushi places before. Usually they're like "oh..." [walks away] or "It's coming"(when it actually wasn't). One thing that I really liked about this sushi place compared to others that I've been to is that they actually have Sashimi on their lunch menu! I <3 Sashimi =]

Afterward, I went to go and show him around my school, which did not last very long because I only took him into the Theatre school building since I'm there most of the time. It's not a huge ass building either. I was able to show him at least one of the studios that I'm in most of the time that's supposedly haunted.
Then on our way back we decided to go to the Apple store and take some Mac pictures. harhar~

Two days later, I hung out with Bryan (again) and Lizzeh yayyy.
We had bubble tea =] That's pretty much it. I got watermelon, my fave. ahah.

Did I do any studying that I should have done the whole week? barely. lulz
Until next time.

So I can feel happier

Friday, February 20, 2009

We live on a mountain
Right at the top
There's a beautiful view
From the top of the mountain
Every morning I walk towards the edge
And throw little things off
Like: Car-parts, bottles and cutlery
Or whatever I find lying around

It's become a habit
A way
To start the day

I go through all this
Before you wake up
So I can feel happier
To be safe up here with you
