But keep one eye open at night...

Tuesday, December 30, 2008

I have been finding more songs that I really like recently and they all happen to be about the same thing that I can easily relate to. One of them is Elephants by Rachael Yamagata. I actually heard it from dance because it's going to be my lyrical solo song for competition this year (even though I'm not really supposed to be competing while at school, but oh wells.) At first, I was very iffy about the song because it just sounded like a normal pretty lyrical song and my solo probably wouldn't be that significant at competition. But then I went home and downloaded the song and looked up the lyrics.. It's actually not a pretty song at all (not in a bad way). They're quite violent actually... I realized this after listening to the whole song. I think the lyrics are amazing and have sooo much meaning.

If the elephants have past lives, yet are destined to always remember,
it's no wonder how they scream,
like you and I, they must have some temper.
And I am dreaming of them on the plains, dirtying up their beds,
watching for some kind of rain to cool their hot heads.
And how dare that you send me that card when I'm doing all that I can do.
You are forcing me to remember when all I want is to just forget you.

If the tiger shall protect her young, then tell me how did you slip by.
All my instincts have failed me for once -- I must have somehow slept the whole night.
And I am dreaming of them with their kill, tearing it all apart,
blood dripping from their lips, and teeth sinking into heart.
And how dare that you say you will call, when you know I need some peace of mind..
If you had to take sides with the animals, won't you do it with one who is kind?

If the hawks in the trees need the dead, if you're living you don't stand a chance.
You can lie there and say you are fed, but there are only two ends to this dance.
You can flee with your wounds just in time, or lie there as he feeds,
watching yourself ripped to shreds and laughing as you bleed.

So for those of you falling in love, keep it kind, keep it good, keep it right.
Throw yourself in the midst of danger, but keep one eye open at night.

Rachael Yamagata - Elephants

I couldn't pick one verse so I just decided to post the whole song ahah. But basically, Rachael is singing about someone she fell in love with and is trying to forget because he hurt her badly. He knows that she still loves him and is playing with her emotions. In the song she uses the animals to describe their relationship. Their temper towards each other is described like the screams of elephants. The tiger refers to herself while the hawk refers to her lover, hence the genders noted in the verses. I really like songs that have metaphorically lyrics like this and don't spoon feed the story and meaning to the listeners. In the last two lines, she gives a warning to those in love, telling them to take the risk but be cautious because anything can happen.

I think now that I know the meaning of this song, I can appreciate my solo to this song more as it gets choreographed by my teacher. I hope I get good choreography and am able to make it my own =] My jazz solo is also to a bitter song, but I'll save it for another day.

Until next time.

Two.

And we will only need each other, we'll breathe together,
our hands will not be taught to hold another's,
when we're the special two.
And we could only see each other, we'll bleed together,
these arms will not be taught to need another's,
when we're the special two.

Knitting yayyy

Wednesday, December 24, 2008

As you may already know, I have decided to knit for all my close friends for this Christmas as well as my older siblings. I am using this as an opportunity to further my knowledge of knitting.

I am also in the process of learning how to crochet because apparently it is easier? But it looks more confusing to me. I was actually at Wal Mart the other day and I bought myself a crochet hook because I saw a tutorial on ThreadBanger on how to crochet a hat. It looks really complicated x_X. But then again it is a Thread Banger tutorial and no offense but their previous knitting tutorials were completely wrong. Well, at least I think they were. Their knitting tutorial was the very first one I looked at to learn how to knit and for some reason it just wasn't working? Even on the comments below people were like wtf. So, then I finally went to a better tutorial by cyberseams =] And yes, it did work. Thread Bangers also put up another tutorial on how to knit a pidge scarf, which isn't hard at all. But of course they told people to go and refer back to their first tutorial on how to knit. This new type of scarf is basically a shorter basic scarf with just adding two button holes on the same row. And again... the button holes did not work out -_- I later found a way better tutorial on how to knit a button hole by someone else. They used a completely different method, which made tighter and cleaner button holes =]. I'm sorry, I love Thread Bangers and all, but their knitting tutorials suck.

Anyways back onto my Christmas knitting. So far, the only thing I know how to make are different types of scarves and fingerless gloves. I'm making mostly scarves because for some reason I'm not too patient with the fingerless gloves. I think maybe it's because after I finish one glove, I realize I have to do the process all over again -_-'

The first scarf I ever made was done by finger knitting! The only materials you need are 2 colours of yarn and scissors. You knit with your fingers =] I saw this tutorial on youtube (omg youtube -_-'') called No Needle Scarf Knitting. It's SUPER easy. It's also a lot faster than using needles.
I actually already gave the first scarf I made in this style to one of my friends a week ago because she's on vacation for the holidays. So, this is just another one I made, but a lot shorter.

By the way, I know that I do have some of my friends on blogger and they do have access to this post, but I'm not saying which scarf is theirs! XD So that's their surprise? lol I didn't take pics of all the scarves anyway. Moving on...

There's the basic knit stitch scarf that I guess everyone starts with when learning how to knit.

This one is not done yet, hence the piece of yarn that has not been weaved in. I want to add more to this scarf so it's not so plain. But I really love the colour and the quality of this yarn.

These are key hole scarves. There is a vertical slit where the scarf goes through to tie around your neck. I just did knit stitches for these. I added some pink buttons to the one on the left to decorate it a bit. Buttons yayyyy. I added a big pompom on the one on the right. Pompoms yayyy

These are the pidge scarves that Thread Bangers were teaching how to make. Both of these are for my sister. I already gave them to her =]

This is a pidge scarf that I decided to keep for myself =] ahah. It's actually the ONLY scarf that I have knitted that I'm keeping for myself.

As for the rest of the knitting goes, I still have 3 more scarves to go for my friends. I'm done with the family knitting. I guess this is just a lil sneak peek for my friends who are getting these =]
Until next time

Downtown fun

Tuesday, December 23, 2008

It's been a while since I've shared a story ahah.
Today I decided to go downtown because my sister was moving into a new apartment by herself that is pretty close to my school. Also, I got a monthly pass for the GO and haven't used it enough to make the money worth it. I only went downtown for my 4 exams in December. I could have easily gotten a 10 ride pass. I needed to use my pass more often ahah.

First off, I had to walk to the GO station which took like over half an hour because my brother and my dad left without me xP They probably forgot that I was going downtown as well. I was hoping they'd drop me off at the station while they were going to my sisters apartment. I had to walk with my other brother because my parents don't like it when I walk to places by myself... even though I'm always by myself when I'm traveling to school? The walk was pretty bad considering there was a snow storm last Friday and some more snow on Sunday. People need to freakin' shovel their sidewalks!!! T_T The snow was so high. I actually fell twice. But it wasn't a very far fall =P

I was actually walking through stuff like this. Ridiculous -_-

By the time I got to Union it was already 3:45. I shopped for like 2 hours by myself. The Eaton Centre was PACKED. It was a monday too. Like, imagine how it could have been during the weekend o_o. Well, I'm pretty much done Christmas shopping for those I am not knitting for ahah... which is pretty much just one person. I was really tempted to buy stuff for myself at the Eaton Centre but then I kept telling myself "Just wait for Forever 21" =]. So, that's what I did. I'm proud of myself! x]

So I went to Forever 21, my new favourite clothing store in the whole wide world. I found the $5 rack and just browsed there. I pretty much just got stuff for myself this time since I was done Christmas shopping and I wouldn't be able to go back there for a while. There wasn't that much with my size. I range between a Small and Medium depending on the clothing. So I had to line up for the Fitting Rooms, which took a while. Mainly because there were only like 4 or 5 rooms AND some girls were taking their time trying the stuff on and showing their other friends in the other fitting rooms, going back and forth. Yeah... Hi! Incredibly long line up right behind you. Have some consideration? I mainly ended up getting a few dresses that were medium. There's only one dress that I want to fix because it is a bit too big. There was also a pretty long line up to purchase. The cashier that I went to was chatting with another girl and taking her time. She was also commenting on the stuff that I picked to the other girl and was like trying them on. Kay, well not like literally putting them on but like holding them up in front of herself.

After that it was pretty dark so I decided to take the subway and street car to my sister's apartment rather than walking all the way. Walking in the dark by yourself downtown is pretty scary T_T. When I went to the subway there was no one in the booths, but it didn't say it was closed either. There was a sign that just said to put the cash fare into the pot. The pot was pretty full. I also saw some people that just walked through without paying anything. So, I just put like 2 quarters in and moved on. I never put the full $2.75 in by the way. I only had like a dollar and 75 cents with me in change. So after I took the subway, I went to take the street car. I had never taken a street car by myself before. I'm usually with friends and follow them because I don't really get it xP So, it was my first time taking the street car on my own ahah. It was taking a while for the street car to come by so there was a ton of people waiting. It took a good 15min before the street car actually came. I had to fight my way in! D: I was one of the first few people to get in >=] The guy didn't even look at my transfer. He was just like "Yeah, yeah, yeah.." There were too many people anyway. There were no seats and I had to move all the way to the back. There was this creepy guy sitting at the back getting high off something and talking to everyone. Not sure what it was. It kinda smelled like gasoline. So I tried to stand further away from him. I finally then got a seat! chyeahh! XD The creepy guy was later on then asked to leave the street car. The bus driver was like "The man in the orange in the back thats sniffing something (i forgot what he said), please leave the street car." The guy was like "Yeah, yeah! I'm leaving! Okayyy!" You could smell whatever he was sniffing so the lady beside me opened the window. Pretty scary.

My sister was already eating out with a few of her friends at this Mexican restaurant which was literally right across from her apartment. I ate their leftovers =] ahah. I didn't mind. Afterwards I looked around my sister's apartment, which is pretty cool for one person. I helped organize some of her furniture and do some groceries with her. It made me realize how much work it would take to start living on my own. I'm definately not ready to move out.

Haha. My shopping spree seems to be highlight of the day rather than visiting my sister even though it should be the other way around.
Anywho. Here's some of the stuff I bought that day =]

Yes, I am in the bathroom. I love my shower curtains too x]

Not bad for all mediums x]
~~~~~
Is it just me or do I actually look like I'm 10 in this pic?
I swear I'm gonna compare this to an old pic of me later XD
Oh yeah. I cut my hair a few days ago =] I love it shorter.
Until next time.
They weren't there
You sighed and I was lost in you, weeks could've past for all I knew.
You were there blanket of the over-world and so I couldn't say,
I wouldn't say "no". But they all said, "you're too young to even know,
just don't let it grow and you'll be stronger without him"
but oh, now, my world is at your feet. I was lost and I was found,
but I was alive and now I've drowned.
So now I will be waiting for the world to hear my song
so they can tell me I was wrong...
chantee STUDY face
It's finally exam week.. ahhhh!! x_X
I'm going to be studying like crazy for the next two weeks.
This is my schedule
Dec 3 - Production & Interview w/ Dance teachers
Dec 5 - English
Dec 8 - Music
Dec 11 - History
I'm really happy that all my exams are equally spread out and that none of them are on the same day.
The ones I'm stressing about the most are my production and history exam. I'm thankful that both are multiple choice. But I definitely won't be relying on just luck for them. The review days for these exams were pretty useful and somewhat surprising for me. I kinda felt like they spoon feeded us in comparison to high school
For example, Production... Our teacher sent everyone a 4 page review thingy and told us to bring it to the review so of course I did. On the 4 pages were basic notes of everything we learned throughout the semester and also certain pages from the textbooks we can refer to. So, having this, I thought that during the review, my teacher would be going into more detail about each point. But no. I started taking notes, until I realized that everything he was saying was right off the sheet. And it's not like he said anything extra either. Soooo... I stopped taking notes =]
History... Right off the bat, he told us to not take any notes during the lecture. He had questions on the power point presentation, asked us for our opinions, and then revealed them. This was our review. And he also said that everything would be posted online. S'yeah. The only thing I think I need to do besides studying the questions and answers he gave us is catch up on all the plays that I did not read >_> which are a lot. I doubt that I will get to reading all of them. I will at least make sure I do study about the plays.
My English review was more like an English review in high school ahah. Like she gave us what types of questions would be on the exam and gave us 4 topics that we would have to write an essay on with only 2 of them being on the exam. I think I'd have to do a lot when studying for this. Because again, I did not read all the "short" stories. Yeah, the stories we were assigned weren't really "short" I'd say. ahah. But yeah, my englsih exam is this Friday, but I probably won't start studying for it til after my production exam. Hopefully, I'll have the time to read all the one's I have missed out on.
Music... he didn't really give us a review. But pretty much all I have to study is everything that was on the past two tests we had. I'll just be studying a lot of music definitions with the Q card method. ahah.
If you don't know what it is, I will explain =] I learned it from my grade 10 religion teacher, Bazinet. And it was REALLY helpful. We had a lot of definitions in that class to study for the exam. So, basically, you write the word you are studying on one side of the Q card, and then you write the definiton on the other side. It helpful because you see the word on its own, which would happen on a test.
For sure I will be studying for Production later tonight after dance.
I was planning to this afternoon... Funny thing... I woke up at 4pm T_T
I was so tired from Lizzeh's party which was uber awesome by the way =]
I will update on it later
Until next time.
